Raigad Rain Update: Red Alert Issued, Schools and Colleges closed in Five Talukas
Heavy rains have returned to Maharashtra after a brief respite, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue fresh alerts for several regions. Among the affected areas, Raigad district has been placed under a red alert today due to intense rainfall activity accompanied by gusty winds.
In light of the deteriorating weather conditions, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in several talukas to ensure student safety. Educational institutions in Alibaug, Roha, Tala, Mahad, and Poladpur will remain closed for the day.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall particularly over Konkan and the Western Ghats, with the intensity expected to remain high in pockets. While isolated showers have been reported in other parts of the state, officials indicate that the overall rain intensity may taper slightly in the coming days.
The decision to close educational institutions comes as a precautionary measure, considering the increasing rainfall and the associated risks of flooding and transportation disruption.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid travel unless necessary, and follow updates from official channels.
