Shivrajyabhishek Sohala 2025: Grand Ceremony Begins at Raigad Fort
The historic 352nd Shivrajyabhishek Sohala (Coronation Ceremony of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj) is being celebrated with grandeur today, Monday, at the iconic Raigad Fort. The event marks the anniversary of the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Hindavi Swarajya, and draws lakhs of Shiv devotees from across Maharashtra.
This year’s celebration sees the presence of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with cabinet ministers Uday Samant, Ashish Shelar, and Bharat Gogavale.
The day’s events began in the morning with the hoisting of the saffron flag, symbolizing the Maratha pride. This was followed by the ceremonial arrival of Shivaji Maharaj’s palanquin, greeted with war cries and chants echoing through the fort.
The main coronation ceremony then commenced at the royal throne, with traditional rituals including the Jalabhishek (water anointment) and Dugdhabhishek (milk anointment) of the golden seals preserved in the Meghdambari — a sacred dome where coronation symbols are housed. A majestic palanquin procession is scheduled to follow.
The spiritual atmosphere was set a day earlier with the worship of Goddess Shirkai, the family deity of Shivaji Maharaj, as a prelude to the main event. Thousands of Shiv bhakts arrived at Raigad Fort over the weekend, demonstrating unwavering devotion despite challenging terrain.
The Meghdambari, the ceremonial centerpiece, has been adorned with vibrant floral decorations. A variety of cultural and devotional programs are being held throughout the day, adding to the significance and festive spirit of the occasion.
