Rain Update: Nira River Overflows in Indapur; Flood Situation Forces Evacuation of Citizens
Heavy rainfall in Indapur taluka of Pune district on Sunday has led to a rise in the Nira River’s water level, triggering a flood-like situation in the adjoining areas. The sudden surge in the river has posed a threat to several villages located along its banks.
In response, the district administration acted swiftly, relocating hundreds of residents from low-lying and flood-prone areas to safer locations. Arrangements for temporary shelters, food, water, and basic necessities have been made to ensure the well-being of the affected citizens.
The local administration, disaster management authorities, police personnel, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are on high alert, working in coordination to monitor and manage the evolving flood situation. Officials have urged residents to follow official instructions and avoid falling prey to rumors. A control room has been set up for assistance, and citizens are advised to reach out in case of emergencies.
Meanwhile, as per rainfall data recorded until 9:30 PM on Sunday, Daund received the highest rainfall at 98 mm, followed by Lonavala with 76 mm and Baramati with 49.5 mm. Other areas in the district reported rainfall measurements of 34 mm, 28 mm, 25 mm, and 5 mm, indicating widespread precipitation.
