As temperatures continue to soar across Maharashtra, bringing discomfort to citizens, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has offered some relief with its latest forecast: the monsoon is expected to arrive earlier than usual this year.

Traditionally, the southwest monsoon hits Kerala around June 1, marking the official onset of the rainy season in India. However, this year, meteorologists predict an early arrival by May 27, nearly five days ahead of schedule.

According to the IMD, weather conditions are already favorable for the monsoon to advance into the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Tuesday, May 13. Following its early entry into Kerala, the monsoon is likely to progress toward Lower Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra by June 6, also earlier than the usual timeline.

The anticipated early arrival is welcome news for farmers and residents, especially in regions like Marathwada and Vidarbha, which have been grappling with unseasonal heat and erratic weather. The IMD will continue to monitor the monsoon’s advancement and issue region-specific forecasts in the coming weeks.
