Continuous heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear in Satara district, where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the next 48 hours. The relentless downpour has prompted authorities to impose a temporary ban on tourism activities across the district until August 19, citing safety concerns.

The region has been battered by intense rain and gusty winds for the past two days. According to official reports, Mahabaleshwar recorded 150 mm of rain in the past 24 hours, contributing to a cumulative 655 mm of rainfall in the season so far.

Key areas including Koyna, Tapola, Mahabaleshwar, Kandati, and Solshi have experienced severe rainfall. The Koyna Dam, a critical water reservoir in the region, has already accumulated 28 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water.

In view of the worsening weather conditions and the potential threat to tourists, the district administration has announced a ban on all tourist activities from June 20 to August 19. Officials have urged citizens and visitors to exercise caution, avoid travel to hill stations in the region, and stay updated through official advisories.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely, with further rainfall likely over the weekend. Emergency services have been put on high alert across the district to manage any adverse developments.
