BJP-Shiv Sena Alliance: BJP to Take Lead Role in Mumbai, Shiv Sena in Thane? Formula for BMC Elections Takes Shape

Sources say that in the upcoming elections, BJP will be the big brother in Mumbai and Shiv Sena will be the big brother in Thane.

As the countdown for the upcoming municipal corporation elections begins, a power-sharing formula between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) seems to be emerging. According to political sources, the BJP is set to play the role of the "elder brother" in Mumbai, while Shiv Sena will take the lead in Thane.

The proposed arrangement is based on the current strength of corporators in both regions. BJP holds a larger number of corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which positions the party to contest more seats in Mumbai. On the other hand, Shiv Sena maintains a strong base in Thane and is expected to lead the campaign there. BJP has already raised the slogan of “150 Plus in Mumbai,” signaling its aggressive strategy to secure a clear majority in the country’s richest civic body. The party aims to capitalize on its existing influence in Mumbai’s urban wards and build momentum ahead of the polls.

While there is no official confirmation yet, internal discussions within both parties suggest that this ‘big brother–little brother’ formula could serve as the foundation of their alliance in local body elections across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Political analysts believe that the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, if formalized, could present a formidable challenge to opposition parties, especially in urban strongholds like Mumbai and Thane. However, seat-sharing talks and leadership dynamics will be closely watched in the coming days as both parties finalize their electoral strategies.
