The ongoing debate over the Marathi language in Maharashtra has taken a fresh turn with a provocative post by Sushil Kedia, founder of Kedianomics. Amidst a politically charged atmosphere, Kedia has publicly declared on social media that he will not learn Marathi, openly mocking MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) tagging Raj Thackeray, Kedia wrote:

“Despite living in Mumbai for 30 years, I don’t speak Marathi well — and because of your bad behavior, I have vowed not to learn Marathi until people like you are stopped from pretending to care about Marathi people. What will you do?”

Kedia’s post comes in the wake of a recent incident in Mira Road, where a shopkeeper was allegedly assaulted by MNS workers for refusing to speak in Marathi. The video of the altercation went viral, sparking widespread outrage and reigniting the language politics debate in the state.

Statement Triggers Controversy

Sushil Kedia's remarks have quickly gained traction, drawing sharp reactions across social and political circles. His direct challenge to Raj Thackeray has escalated tensions, and many are now watching closely to see whether Thackeray responds.

As of now, Raj Thackeray has not issued any statement in response to Kedia’s post. The silence has only added fuel to the speculation, with political observers anticipating a counter-reaction.

The Broader Debate

The Marathi language issue has long been a sensitive cultural and political topic in Maharashtra, often championed by MNS through aggressive campaigns. However, incidents like the one on Mira Road have led to renewed scrutiny over the methods used to promote linguistic pride.

With influential voices like Sushil Kedia now entering the debate, the controversy is expected to intensify in the coming days.
