The Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro 5 line will be operational by December 2026, as announced by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The possibility of Bhiwandi getting its first metro has strengthened, and MMRDA officials have stated that movements in this regard have begun. This 24.45 km long line is being constructed with 17 stations at a cost of 8,416 crore rupees.

The route will start in two phases. In the first phase, there will be a 12.20 km route from Kapurbawdi to Dhamankar Naka with seven stations. Here, 97% of the structural work has been completed, and the remaining work on the pillar at Kapurbawdi and an obstruction of a building has been cleared. The work has gained momentum after the removal of advertisement boards. Testing will begin by September, and the first phase will start by December. Due to delays in the car shed work, initially, trains will be operated using the stabling route.

A car shed will be built on marshy land at Kasheli, which will take six months to fill and two years to complete. Meanwhile, in October, Titagarh Rail Systems Company was awarded a contract worth ₹2,481 crore, and they will have to supply 22 metro trains, signaling, telecom, platform screen doors, and depot machinery. This metro will make the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan journey faster and reduce pollution.
