Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the state government during a rally held at Azad Maidan today. The protest was organized to oppose the controversial Public Safety Bill, which has drawn widespread criticism from opposition leaders and civil society.

This political gathering came in the wake of the now-shelved protest march originally planned by both Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray against the government’s decision to make Hindi compulsory in schools. However, following the government’s withdrawal of the Government Resolutions (GRs) mandating Hindi, the proposed joint march was cancelled. Instead, both leaders are now expected to hold a rally at Azad Maidan.

Addressing the gathering, Uddhav Thackeray accused the government of undermining democracy and manipulating electoral outcomes. "Something has happened in the past few months that even the results in the Legislative Assembly are being overturned," he said, hinting at alleged political interference.

Flanked by Sanjay Raut and Aditya Thackeray, the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief lashed out at the ruling BJP, saying, “Those joining the BJP are hailed as saints — all their wrongdoings are forgiven. But anyone who opposes the BJP is labeled a traitor.” Reaffirming his party’s commitment to public welfare, Thackeray said, “If you are ready to fight, Shiv Sena stands with you. Even though they have a numerical majority, the people on the streets are still with me.”

He also raised serious concerns about the treatment of farmers, alleging, “They are working to label farmers as Naxalites. This is nothing short of criminal.” The rally marks a renewed effort by the Shiv Sena (UBT) to mobilize public support and push back against what they claim are authoritarian moves by the ruling coalition. The upcoming political events, including the possible joint rally with Raj Thackeray, are expected to further intensify the political atmosphere in Maharashtra.
