There is confusion regarding the date of presentation of the Union Budget 2026-27. Since 2017, there has been a tradition of presenting the budget on February 1 at 11 AM every year. However, as February 1, 2026, is a Sunday, there is a discussion about whether the budget will be presented on that day.

Government offices and the stock market are closed on Sundays. Additionally, February 1 is a public holiday due to Sant Ravidas Maharaj Jayanti. Therefore, it is speculated that the central government might change the budget date. January 31, 2026, which is a Saturday, comes before February 1. Hence, there is a discussion that the budget might be presented on that day. On the other hand, February 2, 2026, is a Monday, so the stock market and government work are operational on that day. Therefore, there is also a possibility of the budget being presented on February 2.

The budget has been presented on a Saturday before as well. In 2015 and 2016, the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the budget on a Saturday. In 2025, February 1 was a Saturday, and the interim budget was presented on that day.
