Wanawadi Police Arrest Gang Involved in Theft of Batteries from Traffic Controller Boxes

(Pune) It has been reported that the Wanwadi police have arrested a gang that stole as many as 34 batteries from traffic controller boxes at traffic signal intersections in Pune city. In various intersections in Pune city, when the signal lights go out, the signal continues to operate on the battery in the traffic controller box. This helps in the smooth flow of traffic.
However, after it was noticed that batteries from some traffic controllers were stolen, the Wanwadi police investigated the matter. In the subsequent police action, 34 batteries worth 68,000 rupees were seized. Additionally, four accused have been arrested by the Wanwadi police.
Against this backdrop, rickshaw driver Deepak Amol Kamble (age 32, resident of Ramnagar, Ramtekdi, Hadapsar), Chand Usman Sheikh (age 28, resident of Ramnagar, Ramtekdi, Hadapsar), Vikas alias Taklya Vijay Mane (age 36, resident of the footpath near Aurora Towers, Lashkar), Ali Mulla Sheikh (age 27, resident of Bhagyodayanagar, Kondhwa) have been arrested. Under the Pune Smart City scheme, the responsibility of installing batteries in the signal system and other technical matters has been entrusted to a private company.
