In a proactive move to prevent potential flood situations in the region, the Water Resources Department has gone on high alert and established a dedicated control room in Pune. This initiative aims to ensure timely response and coordination during the upcoming monsoon season.

According to officials, the control room has been equipped with a wireless communication system, and mock drills have already been conducted to test its efficiency and readiness. The department has confirmed that advance flood warnings will be issued to both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations once the Khadakwasla Dam reaches 70% of its water storage capacity.

To enhance coordination and information sharing, the Water Resources Department has also appointed staff members from both municipal corporations to work directly within the control room. These personnel will play a key role in real-time communication and decision-making, should a flood risk arise.

The department’s alert comes ahead of expected heavy rainfall in the region, as part of its efforts to mitigate damage and protect residents from any possible flood-related emergencies.
