Woman Dies After Fall from Bale Killa of Rajgad Fort
A tragic incident unfolded at Rajgad Fort on Thursday evening when a woman slipped and fell into a 150-foot-deep ravine while descending the fort with her husband. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 5.
The deceased has been identified as Komal Satish Shinde, a resident of Alandi in Khed taluka, Pune district. According to the Velhe police, Komal was visiting Rajgad Fort as a tourist along with her husband. The accident took place while the couple was descending after exploring the fort’s bastions. Komal reportedly lost her footing and fell into a steep valley.
Upon receiving the emergency call, Police Constable Yuvraj Somvanshi, along with members of the disaster management team—Tanaji Bhosale, Ganesh Sapkal, Sanjay Chorghe, Nilesh Jadhav, Sandeep Solaskar, and Sunny Mane—rushed to the location. The rescue operation proved challenging as the pathway had become slippery due to rainfall earlier in the day, further complicating the effort to retrieve the body.
Despite the team’s efforts, Komal was unresponsive when brought to the Velhe Rural Hospital. Doctors there declared her dead before any treatment could be administered at around 11:30 p.m.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and sparked renewed concerns about tourist safety at historic sites, especially during the monsoon season. Authorities are urging visitors to exercise extreme caution while trekking or exploring forts and mountainous terrain during rains.
