This incident took place on July 29 during the practice session. At that time, while the Indian team was practicing, groundsman Lee Fortis gave some instructions. These instructions included "Stand 2.5 meters away from the wicket and observe from outside the rope." However, Gambhir did not appreciate the method and tone of these instructions.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak stated at the press conference that he had never heard such a suggestion in his career before. Fortis's behavior caused serious anger.
