(Neeraj Chopra) India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra could not shine as expected in this year's World Championship. After a long span of 2566 days, he did not secure a place in the top three. After consistently achieving success at the international level for 7 years, he finished eighth in this competition held in Tokyo. However, for India, Sachin Yadav performed excellently, securing the fourth position and creating hope for a bright future.
Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago won the gold medal with a javelin throw of 88.16 meters. Grenada's Anderson Peters claimed the silver with 87.38 meters, while America's Curtis Thompson secured the bronze with 86.67 meters. Neeraj's best throw was 84.08 meters on his second attempt, but he could not shine at the expected level. He ultimately finished in eighth place.
On the contrary, 25-year-old Sachin Yadav from Uttar Pradesh recorded his best throw of 86.27 meters to secure the fourth position. With a strong throw in his very first attempt, he challenged the veterans. He maintained consistent performance in the subsequent rounds as well. Sachin had previously won a silver medal in the Asian Championship and a gold medal in the national competition.
In this competition, Sachin not only outperformed Neeraj but also Pakistan's Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem (82.75 meters) and Germany's Diamond League winner Julian Weber (86.11 meters). Arshad secured the tenth position.
