Uncertainty continues to loom over the India-Pakistan match in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Although there are discussions that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused to play against India, no official written information has been given to the ICC yet. Therefore, the possibility of this much-anticipated match happening on February 15 is still alive. Efforts are underway from the ICC to provide steadfast support for this major match.
On Sunday, February 8, an important meeting took place between ICC and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, which was also attended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman. In this meeting, Pakistan presented three conditions to the ICC to withdraw the boycott against India. The first condition is to give Pakistan a greater share of revenue, and the third is for Indian players to shake hands with Pakistani players in the T20 World Cup.
However, the second condition, namely resuming bilateral cricket series with India, is completely unacceptable to India. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was played in 2012. Due to political tensions over the past 16 years, both teams have only faced each other in ICC tournaments. After last year's terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has taken a tougher stance against Pakistan, and since the Asia Cup 2025, Indian players do not even shake hands with Pakistani players.
Even if Pakistan's other two conditions are accepted for discussion, the demand for a bilateral series is likely to be rejected. This dispute casts a shadow over the future of the India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup. It is expected that the ICC will make a decision soon.
• Pakistan has set three conditions before the ICC to play a match against India
• Demand to start a bilateral series is unacceptable for India
