Vijay Mallya Reacts to RCB’s Historic IPL Win: “My Dream Has Finally Come True”
After 18 long years of waiting, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally lifted their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, defeating Punjab Kings in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB posted a total of 190 for 9 in 20 overs, setting a target of 191. Punjab Kings fell just short, finishing at 185 runs, and RCB emerged victorious by 5 runs to claim their first IPL title.
The win triggered jubilant celebrations across Bengaluru, with the city's streets echoing the iconic chant “Ee Sala Cup Namde.” Fans across the globe joined in the festivities, celebrating RCB’s long-awaited triumph.
Among those who expressed joy over the historic win was RCB’s former owner Vijay Mallya. Taking to social media, Mallya shared an emotional message, recalling his early days with the franchise.
“When I started RCB, my dream was that one day this trophy would be given to Bengaluru. Today that dream has come true,” Mallya wrote. “I had the honor of selecting Virat Kohli as a youngster, and it is remarkable that he has been with RCB for 18 years. At the same time, I also had the privilege of bringing Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers into the team. Finally, the IPL trophy has come to Bengaluru.”
He added, “Congratulations and thanks once again to everyone who made my dream come true. RCB fans are the best and they deserve this IPL trophy. Ee Sala Cup Bengaluru Namde.”
Mallya, who took over the RCB franchise in 2008, played a key role in shaping its early years. However, he stepped down as the franchise’s director in 2016 after leaving India amid financial fraud allegations. Despite his controversial departure, Mallya’s emotional tribute underscored his deep connection to the team he once led.
