Proud Moment for India: Neeraj Chopra Crosses 90-Meter Mark in Javelin Throw
India’s Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra created history on Friday night by crossing the 90-meter mark for the first time in his career at the Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar.
Neeraj delivered an outstanding performance, achieving this milestone in his third attempt, where he registered a throw of 90.23 meters. This marks a significant personal best and establishes him among the elite group of javelin throwers worldwide.
The competition began with Neeraj throwing 88.44 meters in his first attempt. His second attempt was a foul, but he bounced back spectacularly in the third round with the record-breaking throw. With this, Neeraj became one of only 25 javelin throwers in the world to have thrown beyond 90 meters — a benchmark of excellence in the sport.
Neeraj was leading the competition after his 90.23-meter effort, but Germany's Julian Weber later surpassed him with a 91-meter throw, clinching the top position. Despite finishing second, Neeraj’s performance is being widely celebrated as a proud moment for India.
This remarkable achievement comes after Neeraj narrowly missed out on the Diamond League title last year. His latest record is a strong indicator of his form ahead of major international events, including the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
