T20 World Cup 2026: Not just Rohit–Virat! These 7 big Indian legends excluded from T20 World Cup
Scroll down to read the news in brief...
The Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup was announced today, Saturday (December 20), by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav at a press conference. Seven veteran players from the winning team of the T20 World Cup 2024 could not secure a place in this new team. This includes former captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, all of whom have retired from T20 international cricket. The selectors have given priority to new faces, giving experienced players a break, which has sparked discussions among cricket fans.
Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Yashasvi Jaiswal from the final 15-member squad of 2024 have not been included in this World Cup squad. It was already considered certain that wicketkeeper Pant, fast bowler Siraj, and spinner Chahal would not be selected. The selection committee has decided to give opportunities to young players, and perhaps one might be considered as a reserve player. However, their names will not be in the final 15.
After the successful campaign of the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian team is moving towards bringing the new generation to the forefront. Cricket enthusiasts are focused on how the team under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav will perform. This decision by the selection committee has completely changed the team's composition, increasing the anticipation for the performance in the next World Cup.
