Aamir Khan Announces ‘Mahabharat’ as His Dream Project; Could Be His Last Film

Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan is gearing up for a grand return to the big screen with his upcoming film ‘Sitare Zameen Par’, scheduled for release on June 20. In a candid conversation on entrepreneur Raj Shamani’s popular podcast, Aamir shared insights into his future plans and reflected on his journey in cinema. Speaking about his deep passion for storytelling and the emotional connection he feels with Indian epics, he said:

Mahabharat is my dream. I will begin working on it after 'Sitare Zameen Par' releases. I think it’s a project that, once completed, might make me feel like there's nothing more left to do. That’s the scale and depth of this story — emotional, vast, and filled with grandeur. Whatever exists in the world is contained in the Mahabharat.

When asked whether it could be his last film, Aamir added:

If you're asking about the end of my journey, then yes — I feel that maybe after making Mahabharat, I won’t want to do anything else.

‘Sitare Zameen Par’: A Sequel with a New Twist

Aamir Khan’s upcoming release, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’, is a spiritual successor to his critically acclaimed 2007 film ‘Taare Zameen Par’. While the earlier film focused on childhood dyslexia, the new film takes a different route — Aamir plays a basketball coach, guiding a group of young athletes.

The film features Genelia D’Souza in a lead role alongside ten debutant actors, making it a fresh ensemble. Directed by R. S. Prasanna and jointly produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film blends sports and emotion and aims to capture the spirit of determination and teamwork.

A Grand Vision Ahead

If ‘Mahabharat’ does become his final cinematic outing, Aamir Khan seems intent on leaving behind a legacy of impactful storytelling. Known for pushing creative boundaries, the actor has long expressed a desire to adapt India’s greatest epic for the screen, though he has also acknowledged the immense challenge it presents.

As fans eagerly await the release of Sitare Zameen Par, all eyes are now on Aamir’s next move — and the possibility that Mahabharat may become his magnum opus.
