IPL 2025: Trouble for Delhi Capitals as Faf du Plessis and Donovan Ferreira Withdraw

After Mitchell Starc from the Delhi Capitals team, information has emerged that Faf du Plessis and Donovan Ferreira have also withdrawn from the rest of the IPL.

As the IPL 2025 resumes today, cricket fever is once again gripping fans across the country. However, it's not all good news—especially for the Delhi Capitals (DC), who have been dealt a significant blow. Following the earlier exit of Mitchell Starc, two more key players—former South African captain Faf du Plessis and South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira—have also withdrawn from the remainder of the tournament. Faf du Plessis had a modest season, scoring 168 runs in six matches, including two half-centuries. His campaign was marred by injuries that caused him to miss a few matches.

Donovan Ferreira, meanwhile, had limited opportunities and featured as an impact player in just one match. With both players out, Delhi’s batting lineup now faces a serious challenge. The team is expected to consider Karun Nair or KL Rahul as potential openers alongside Abhishek Porel. The pressure is mounting as DC struggles to maintain consistency in a season that already feels like a 13-month drought. In a bid to strengthen their squad, Delhi Capitals have brought in Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, his availability remains uncertain at this point.

Tough Road Ahead for Delhi

Delhi Capitals currently sit in fifth position on the points table, with six wins from 11 matches. To stay in contention for a top-two finish and secure a playoff advantage, they must win all three of their remaining league matches. The road ahead is anything but easy.

IPL Matches Resume Post Ceasefire

The IPL 2025 had been temporarily suspended due to tensions between India and Pakistan. With a ceasefire now in place, the tournament is set to resume today, May 17. The revised schedule kicks off with a high-stakes clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru. The remaining 13 league-stage matches will be played across six venues—Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. The league will conclude with the final match on June 3.
