A heartbreaking story has emerged from the recent Air India Flight AI 171 crash, where one brother survived while the other tragically lost his life. Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, a British citizen of Indian origin, was among the few who miraculously survived the horrific accident. However, his younger brother Ajay was among the many who perished in the crash.

The ill-fated Air India flight lost control just minutes after takeoff and crashed into a residential area near B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad. Several lives were lost in the devastating impact, and the incident has left families shattered. Ramesh and Ajay had been visiting India to meet family members and were on their way back to London when the tragedy struck.

Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, who was rescued from the burning wreckage, was admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. According to Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent, Ramesh’s condition stabilized and he was discharged late Tuesday night. During his hospital stay, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited and personally inquired about his health.

Dr. Joshi further informed that the hospital had offered assistance to the family, including transportation arrangements to their home in the Union Territory of Diu. Although the airline had offered hotel accommodation, the family opted to make their own arrangements.

Ajay, who was seated in 11-J on the flight, was identified through DNA analysis. His body was handed over to the family at 2:10 AM on Wednesday—just hours after Ramesh was discharged. The family then returned to Diu to perform Ajay’s last rites.

An emotional Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, still recovering from his injuries and the trauma, broke down during the funeral. With a heavy heart, he carried out the final rituals for his younger brother, a moment that brought tears to many eyes.
