‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Skips Theatres, Premieres on OTT Amid Indo-Pak Tensions
There is some important news for Bollywood fans. The theatrical release of actor Rajkummar Rao and Vamika Gabbi's much-awaited film 'Bhool Chook Maaf' has been cancelled and will now be released directly on the OTT platform Prime Video on May 16. On the other hand, the release date of Sooraj Pancholi's comeback film 'Kesari Veer' has been postponed.
Mixed Reactions from the Audience
The announcement has garnered mixed responses from fans and the film fraternity. While many have praised the move as a gesture of patriotism and sensitivity, others believe the decision may be commercially driven.
“This is just an excuse. The film didn’t get enough screens and lacked aggressive promotion,” said one social media user, echoing a view shared by some within the industry.
Despite the controversy, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the family drama, which features Rajkummar Rao in a light-hearted, emotional role alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, known for her recent OTT successes.
‘Kesari Veer’ Release Postponed to May 23
Meanwhile, another big-ticket release, ‘Kesari Veer’, featuring Sooraj Pancholi in a comeback role, has also seen a change in release plans. Initially slated for May 16, the film will now hit theatres on May 23.
Directed by Samar Pratap Singh, 'Kesari Veer' is a historical action drama based on the valor of the Rajput community. The film marks the debut of Akanksha Sharma and features prominent actors Suniel Shetty and Vivek Oberoi in pivotal roles.
Industry Watch: Sensitive Times and Strategic Shifts
With the current national mood affecting entertainment releases, production houses appear to be recalibrating their strategies to balance box office expectations and public sentiment. As digital platforms continue to rise in prominence, the shift from theatrical to OTT may become increasingly common in politically sensitive times.
