Bus Carrying ITBP Personnel Falls into River in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir
A major accident was averted on Wednesday in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir when a bus carrying Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel fell into the Sindhu River. Fortunately, there were no personnel in the bus at the time of the accident.
According to officials, today, July 30, early morning, a bus set out to carry ITBP personnel slipped off the road near the Kullun bridge and fell into the river. There were no staff in the bus during the accident. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
According to information provided by the Ganderbal police, "In the early hours, at Rezin Kullun in Ganderbal, an empty bus reserved for carrying ITBP personnel slipped into the Sindhu River while taking a turn. The driver sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition."
After the accident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Ganderbal, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint search and rescue operation. Efforts are underway to retrieve the vehicle and secure the area. Officials also stated that weapons were being transported in the bus. Some weapons went missing after the bus fell into the river. So far, three weapons have been found in the river, officials said.
Although the exact cause of the accident is not yet clear, officials have stated that the accident occurred due to slippery conditions caused by heavy rain.
