Air India Plane Crash: DGCA Removes Three Senior Officers Over Crew Scheduling Lapses
In the wake of the recent Air India flight crash, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken stern action against the airline’s internal operations, removing three senior officers from all responsibilities related to crew management.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the DGCA identified serious lapses in crew scheduling and rostering protocols. The three officers in question were found accountable for these operational failures and have since been stripped of duties involving any aspect of crew deployment or supervision.
The disciplinary action follows the crash of an Air India flight bound for London, which took off from Ahmedabad airport on June 12. Though details of the crash investigation are still emerging, initial findings have raised concerns over crew management irregularities, prompting swift regulatory intervention.
The aviation watchdog has directed Air India to immediately initiate internal disciplinary proceedings against the officers. Additionally, the airline is required to submit a comprehensive report detailing the progress and outcome of these proceedings within 10 days.
In its directive, the DGCA has also instructed Air India to enhance its internal scheduling mechanisms to prevent future lapses. The agency emphasized that flight safety remains non-negotiable and that any deviation from established safety standards will be dealt with firmly.
This move signals a clear message from the DGCA: operational negligence, especially concerning crew management, will not be tolerated in India’s aviation sector.
