In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Over 56,000 Installed to Ensure Accurate and Timely Electricity Bills
What is a TOD Meter?
A TOD meter is an advanced electricity meter that records hourly consumption data, enabling consumers to monitor and manage their energy usage in real time. These meters are directly linked to Mahavitaran’s central server, allowing for automated, accurate readings with no human intervention. This eliminates the scope for manual errors and ensures complete transparency in the billing process.
According to Mahavitaran officials, the TOD meter guarantees accurate billing and helps avoid issues such as unnecessary late fees, penalties, or interest.
Domestic Consumers May Soon Get TOD Benefits
While TOD meters have long been used by industrial consumers—who benefit from discounted rates during off-peak hours—Mahavitaran has now proposed extending this model to domestic users as well. A proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission to allow household consumers to receive discounts if they use electricity during designated low-demand periods.
Key Benefits of TOD Meters:
Real-time electricity consumption tracking
Accurate and timely billing
Reduced chances of electricity theft
Avoidance of late fees, penalties, and interest
Unit consumption data available on mobile devices
Where Have the Meters Been Installed?
TOD meters have primarily been installed in Mahavitaran offices, official government residences, public sector institutions, mobile tower clients, and solar energy users.
Pawan Kumar Kachhot, Chief Engineer at Mahavitaran, stated,
“TOD meters are fully postpaid and represent a crucial step toward providing accurate and timely electricity bills. These meters empower consumers to take control of both their consumption and energy costs.”
The campaign reflects Mahavitaran’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure, increasing customer satisfaction, and promoting responsible energy use across Maharashtra.
