Team India’s preparations for the much-anticipated five-match T20 series against England have been overshadowed by concerns over the health of captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The Indian women’s team is currently touring England, with the first match scheduled to be played today at 7:30 PM IST.

Speculation arose after Harmanpreet was notably absent from the pre-series press conference. However, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana addressed the media and clarified the situation, revealing that Harmanpreet is feeling slightly unwell but is expected to play in the opening match. Speaking to reporters, Mandhana said, “I attended the press conference on behalf of Harmanpreet as she is not feeling well. But there is no serious concern, and she should be available for the first match.”

The Indian team has already arrived in England and begun practice sessions last week. Mandhana emphasized the team’s efforts to acclimatize to English conditions, saying, “We’ve had a good amount of time to adapt to the weather and playing style here. For some of our players, this is their first time in England, so getting used to the environment has been important.” She further added, “This series is crucial for us, especially since the T20 World Cup will be held in England next year. We’re confident in our preparation, and I believe the team will perform well.”

The series is being seen as a key opportunity for Team India to test its strengths ahead of the 2026 T20 Women’s World Cup, with both teams fielding competitive squads. As fans gear up for the exciting showdown between two of the top women’s cricket teams, all eyes will be on Harmanpreet Kaur’s fitness and the team’s performance in the opening match.
