( ITR Filing Extension ) Important news has emerged for taxpayers. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has once again extended the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR). Previously, the last date was set as September 15, 2025. However, on the same day, due to heavy traffic and technical difficulties on the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal, millions of taxpayers faced inconvenience. Therefore, the government has provided relief to taxpayers by extending the deadline by one day to September 16, 2025.

According to the information provided by the Income Tax Department, as of September 15, a total of 7.3 crore ITRs have been filed, which is more than last year's 7.28 crore. This clearly shows the increased compliance tendency among taxpayers and the expansion of the tax base. However, many users complained on social media that there were obstacles in logging into the portal, uploading ITRs, paying advance tax, or downloading AIS.

In this regard, the department clarified that the portal is functioning properly and users should clear their browser cache or use an alternative browser to avoid technical difficulties. Additionally, to facilitate taxpayers, the department has made it possible to report issues via email and mobile numbers.

CBDT has stated through social media that the deadline has been extended to September 16 to give taxpayers additional time to file ITR. Therefore, those who have not yet filed ITR are urged to take this opportunity and complete the filing without delay.
