Jyeshtha Purnima 2025 : Rituals to Invite Lakshmi's Blessings and Prosperity
According to Hindu scriptures, Jyeshtha month holds special importance in the religious calendar. The full moon that falls in this month amplifies the energy of spiritual practices, making it an ideal time for prayers, donations, and sacred observances.
Why Is Jyeshtha Purnima Significant?
On Jyeshtha Purnima, devotees believe that performing rituals and giving alms helps remove negativity from the home and attract peace, happiness, and prosperity. It is said that worshipping on this day pleases Goddess Lakshmi, who then blesses the household with wealth and abundance.
Devotees wake up early, take holy baths in rivers, light lamps, and offer food, clothes, and other essentials to the needy. These acts of charity are believed to cleanse past karma and fulfill spiritual desires.
Another central tradition is the worship of Tulsi (holy basil) and fasting, which is thought to protect and strengthen wealth without diminishing it. Fasting on Jyeshtha Purnima is also believed to wash away ancestral sins.
Vat Purnima Also Celebrated
Coinciding with Jyeshtha Purnima is the observance of Vat Purnima, also known as Vat Savitri Vrat—a significant day for married women, who fast and circumambulate the sacred banyan (Vata) tree praying for their husband's long life and well-being, following the story of Savitri and Satyavan from Hindu mythology.
On this day, the Satyanarayan Katha is also read and listened to, invoking the blessings of Lord Vishnu for fulfillment of wishes and peace in life.
