Speeding truck plows into crowd at immersion procession

(Karnataka Accident) In a horrific accident during Ganesh immersion in Hassan district of Karnataka, 8 people have died and as many as 25 people have been injured. This incident occurred on Friday night (September 12) on National Highway-373. While the Ganesh immersion procession was underway, an uncontrolled truck plowed into the crowd, crushing many devotees.

According to the information provided by the police, the truck driver tried to avoid a two-wheeler, but lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the truck directly entered the immersion procession. A severe situation arose at the scene after the accident. The police have informed that among the deceased are five villagers and three students from the engineering college in Mosale Hosahalli.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck first hit a two-wheeler and then, becoming uncontrollable, entered the crowd of people. Four people died on the spot. The remaining injured were immediately admitted to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences and other private hospitals. Currently, all the injured are undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced a compensation of 5 lakh rupees for each of the deceased's families. He also clarified that the state government will bear the entire cost of treatment for the injured. Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar also described the accident as unfortunate and horrific, and expressed a prayer for the souls of the deceased to find peace. The truck driver has been taken into custody and a thorough investigation of the incident is underway.
