Kishtwar Encounter : Maharashtra Soldier Martyred in Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Terror Operation
The martyred jawan, Sandeep Pandurang Gaikar, hailed from Brahmanwada village in Akole taluka of Ahilyanagar district. He was a part of the security forces involved in the operation aimed at flushing out terrorists suspected to be hiding in the region.
According to official sources, a joint search operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about the presence of 3–4 terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. The operation was carried out by personnel from 2 Para, 11 Rashtriya Rifles, 7 Assam Rifles, and the Special Action Force of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
As the security forces cordoned off the area, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight. In the ensuing encounter, Gaikar was fatally wounded, while two other soldiers sustained injuries. The injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at a military hospital.
The operation is ongoing as security forces continue efforts to neutralize the remaining terrorists in the area.
Authorities have paid tribute to Gaikar’s bravery, and his sacrifice has been acknowledged as a significant contribution to the nation’s fight against terrorism.
