Ladki Bahin Yojana Verification Delayed Amid Election Concerns

There is a fear among the ruling party that disqualifying beneficiaries before local self-government elections may have repercussions. Hence, it is reported that the verification of beneficiaries for the Ladki Bahin Scheme has been suspended.

The Women's Development Department announced five months ago that the verification of the Chief Minister's My Beloved Sister scheme, started by the state government, would be conducted. However, the ruling party fears backlash if beneficiaries are disqualified just before the local self-government elections. Therefore, it is reported that the verification of beneficiaries for the Beloved Sister scheme has been postponed.

Last year in July, the Beloved Sister scheme received 26.3 million applications from across the state. In the first phase, 23.4 million women benefited. Subsequently, this number stabilized at 24.7 million. This number has remained constant for the past three months. Nine hundred thousand beloved sisters who did not meet the criteria have been disqualified. Previously, two and a half thousand beloved sisters who were government employees and received benefits were disqualified. Currently, thousands of contract workers are working in government and semi-government meetings, and direct beloved sisters or beneficiaries whose husbands are working are on the verge of disqualification.
