MahaRERA Cancels Registration of Over 4,000 Real Estate Agents in Thane

Real estate agents play a crucial role as intermediaries between homebuyers and developers, often serving as the first source of information for customers about a project. However, the increasing number of complaints against unregistered or non-compliant agents has prompted MahaRERA to take decisive action.

Currently, over 50,000 agents are registered with MahaRERA across Maharashtra. Of these, 6,760 are based in Thane district. According to the authority, many agents in Thane failed to undergo the mandatory training or did not renew their registrations in accordance with the rules. As a result, their registrations have now been cancelled.

Under the RERA Act, registered agents are required to provide accurate and transparent information to customers — including model sale agreements, valid registration certificates, carpet area details, and defect liability periods. These provisions are designed to protect homebuyers and ensure transparency in property transactions.

To prevent fraud and bring accountability to the sector, MahaRERA has made it mandatory for all real estate agents to complete official training and obtain certification. Authorities believe that such measures will help curb malpractice and restore trust in the real estate market.

This sweeping move by MahaRERA is being seen as a step towards discipline and integrity in the real estate agent community, ultimately benefiting homebuyers and contributing to a more transparent industry environment.
