Metro 3 Sees Strong Ridership on First Day as Mumbaikars Opt for New Route Over Weekend
The stretch, part of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro corridor, opened to the public on Saturday, following its official inauguration on Friday by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
According to figures released by Mumbai Metro 3 authorities, as of 9 PM on Saturday, 29,750 passengers traveled between Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk, while 14,440 passengers commuted between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli Naka).
Taking advantage of the weekend and ongoing school holidays, many passengers used the metro to travel to Siddhivinayak station for a visit to the iconic temple. The 36-minute journey between Aarey and Worli not only offered a faster and more comfortable alternative to road travel but also contributed to easing traffic congestion and reducing air pollution in the city.
Passengers shared positive feedback about the travel experience, praising the speed, convenience, and comfort of the underground metro service. Authorities expect the ridership to increase further as the city continues to embrace the new line in daily commutes.
