Monsoon Safety: Tourist Access Restricted at Lonavala Spots Until August 31

As the monsoon season sets in, the local administration in Lonavala has implemented strict safety measures, including a ban on entry to several popular tourist destinations. The decision comes in the wake of past monsoon-related accidents, including last year’s tragic incident in which a family was swept away by floodwaters.

As the monsoon season sets in, the local administration in Lonavala has implemented strict safety measures, including a ban on entry to several popular tourist destinations. The decision comes in the wake of past monsoon-related accidents, including last year’s tragic incident in which a family was swept away by floodwaters.

Citing public safety concerns, Section 163 has been imposed across multiple locations in Lonavala, prohibiting tourist access until August 31, 2025. The move aims to prevent mishaps caused by heavy rains and slippery terrain that typically affect the region during this time.

The restricted spots include:

  • Ekvira Devi Temple

  • Karla Caves

  • Bhaje Caves and Bhaje Waterfalls

  • Lohagad, Visapur, and Tikona Forts

  • Tiger Point, Shivling Point, Pawana Dam, and Lions Point

These areas, known for their scenic beauty and popularity during the monsoon, are also prone to landslides, flash floods, and overcrowding, making them potentially dangerous for tourists.

However, Bhushi Dam, a favorite monsoon destination, has been excluded from the ban. Tourists will still be allowed to visit and enjoy the unique experience of getting drenched on the dam's iconic steps. The administration has urged visitors to strictly adhere to safety guidelines and cooperate with local authorities.

“We request all tourists to follow the instructions and avoid restricted areas for their own safety,” an official statement from the local administration read.

The authorities have assured that these temporary restrictions are purely precautionary and aimed at ensuring a safe monsoon tourism experience in Lonavala.
