Mumbai Face Heavy Rainfall; IMD Issues Alerts for Surrounding Areas
Heavy rainfall continued to lash Mumbai and its surrounding areas for the second consecutive day, bringing much-needed monsoon showers but also raising concerns over waterlogging and transportation disruptions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains, which began early Saturday, have intensified since Sunday morning and are expected to continue throughout the day. Apart from Mumbai, heavy rainfall has been reported across the Konkan coastal belt, including Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, Dombivli, and Kalyan.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar districts, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. A red alert, the highest level of warning, has been issued for Ratnagiri district, signaling extremely heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding and other weather-related disruptions.
Monsoon activity is expected to intensify further across Maharashtra starting today. The IMD has also issued a heavy rain warning for Sindhudurg district and placed Pune and the Ghat regions under an orange alert as well.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official weather advisories. Emergency services and disaster management teams are on alert in vulnerable regions.
