NEET-UG 2025 : Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Challenging Exam Results
The Supreme Court of India on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the results of the NEET-UG 2025 examination, which alleged an error in one of the questions. The court observed that interfering in a national-level examination involving lakhs of candidates would not be appropriate and could adversely impact thousands of students.
A bench comprising Justices P. S. Narasimha and R. Mahadevan heard the petition filed by a candidate who claimed that there was a flaw in the question paper and sought a revision of the results along with a correction in the official answer key. The petitioner had also requested a stay on the ongoing counselling process.
The bench, however, refused to entertain the plea, stating:
“We have already rejected the same points. We accept that there can be multiple correct answers, but we cannot interfere in an examination that has been taken by lakhs of students. This is not a matter concerning just one individual — any such intervention will impact thousands.” (PTI)
The court noted that it had dismissed a similar petition earlier this week, reinforcing its consistent stance on the matter.
The NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses) is a highly competitive medical entrance exam conducted at the national level. Every year, it witnesses participation from over a million aspirants vying for seats in medical and dental colleges across India.
With the counselling process already underway, the Supreme Court’s decision provides clarity and stability to the admission process, despite continuing debates over exam errors and evaluation policies.
