In the wake of the Vaishnavi Hagawane case, another troubling incident involving allegations of harassment and injustice against a woman in a political family has come to light in Maharashtra. Priya Phuke, the sister-in-law of BJP MLA Parinay Phuke, has publicly accused her in-laws of harassment, threats, and abuse.

Speaking at a press conference held in Mumbai, Priya detailed the traumatic experiences she has endured at the hands of her in-laws. Thackeray faction leader Sushma Andhare and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Rohini Khadse were also present to show support.

Priya alleged that her husband, Sanket Phuke, had undergone a kidney transplant before their marriage—a fact that was deliberately concealed by his family. In 2022, Sanket died due to a lung infection. Since then, Priya has been living with her mother along with her 10-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter.

“When I confronted my in-laws about the deception, they threatened me and my family,” she claimed. “They changed the ownership of property behind our backs, and when we objected, they threw us out of the house late at night. Since then, they have been harassing me continuously, even sending goons to intimidate me.”

Priya further revealed that despite meeting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis multiple times and submitting a detailed complaint along with evidence, no action has been taken. “I went to the Women’s Commission and to the police several times, but my complaint was either ignored or rejected,” she said.

She also claimed that false allegations were made against her in an attempt to strip her of custody of her children. “They threatened me, saying ‘the justice system is in our pocket.’ I just want my rights and justice,” she concluded, visibly emotional.

The case has sparked fresh concerns about the misuse of power and the challenges women face when seeking justice, especially within politically influential families. Calls for a fair investigation and accountability are now growing from multiple quarters.
