Heavy rains battered Pune and the twin city of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Friday evening, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic jams, and power disruptions in several areas. The downpour, which began around 6:30 PM and lasted till 7:30 PM, caused chaos across the region in just under an hour.

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, localities such as Pavale Bridge, Chikhli, Tathawade, Punawale, Yamunanagar, Bijlinagar, Bhosari, Akurdi, and the Chinchwad BRT routes were heavily inundated. Severe traffic congestion was reported as water filled roads and low-lying areas. In Chikhli, water even entered homes, causing distress to residents.

A tree collapse incident in Bhosari added to the panic, as a car was crushed under the falling branches. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

In Pune, strong winds accompanied the rain, leading to power supply disruptions across multiple neighborhoods. The Dive Ghat area witnessed cloudburst-like conditions, where heavy rainfall washed mud, stones, and debris onto the roads, bringing vehicular movement in the ghat section to a standstill.

Adding to the woes, water also entered the premises of the IB Guest House, a significant government building in Pune that hosts MLAs, former MLAs, and senior officials. Water reportedly reached the staircase area, prompting emergency drainage efforts by the staff.

This marks the third consecutive day of intense rainfall in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Pune and surrounding regions for Saturday, June 14, warning of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The district administration has appealed to citizens to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow updates from local authorities for safety.
