Rajnath Singh Inaugurates BrahMos Production Unit

In a significant step towards strengthening India’s defense manufacturing capabilities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos missile production unit in Lucknow today. The unit will manufacture the world’s most advanced and lethal missile system — the BrahMos and its next-generation variant, BrahMos-NG.

Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Singh emphasized India’s resilience and strategic preparedness. “Whatever the situation may be, the country will continue to move forward. India will achieve its goals under any circumstance. BrahMos strikes fear into the hearts of our enemies,” he said. He also noted the rapid completion of the production facility, which was built in a record time of just 40 months.

The BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) missile, which will be produced at this facility, represents a major leap in missile technology. Designed to destroy enemy military installations with pinpoint accuracy, the BrahMos-NG is equipped with radar-evading capabilities. It will be significantly more advanced than the current version, boasting a range of over 1,500 km and a top speed of approximately 4,321 km/h.

Additionally, the missile will be 50% lighter and three meters shorter than the existing BrahMos, making it more agile and harder to detect. With a weight of around 1.5 tons and a length of 6 meters, it will be more adaptable to various launch platforms. The missile has been co-developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroeniya.

Addressing the event, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivered a strong statement on the missile's deterrent power: “Ask Pakistan what the strength of BrahMos is.” He also extended his congratulations to the armed forces for the success of Operation Sindoor.

CM Yogi recalled that when Rajnath Singh visited Lucknow for the first time as Defence Minister, the city hosted its first-ever defense exhibition. At that time, Singh had promised that the BrahMos missile would one day be manufactured in Lucknow — a promise that has now been fulfilled.
