Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli Will Depart At Night This Year For Ashadi Wari

This year, the revered palanquin (Palkhi) procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Mauli, which travels to Pandharpur for the annual Ashadhi Wari, will see a change in its departure time. Instead of the customary 4 PM departure, the Palkhi will now leave at 8 PM on June 19.

The adjustment has been made to accommodate a traditional palanquin ceremony that coincides with a Thursday—considered significant in Warkari tradition. Trustees Dr. Bhavarth Dekhne and Rohini Pawar informed that since June 19 falls on a Thursday, the weekly "Thursday Palkhi" will proceed first, as per long-standing custom. Following this, an evening aarti will be performed, after which the main Palkhi procession will officially depart for Pandharpur.

Although the departure has been postponed by a few hours, all traditional rituals and spiritual observances will be carried out as per tradition. “The sanctity of the event will remain intact, and the changes are being made to ensure smooth coordination of all ceremonies,” said trustee Rohini Pawar.

For the convenience and safety of the Warkaris (devotees), several key decisions were taken during a planning meeting chaired by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner. It was clarified that the Thursday Palkhi will conclude before sunset, paving the way for the evening aarti and the formal departure ceremony.

This thoughtful shift in schedule reflects a balance between preserving religious traditions and ensuring organized execution of the festival. The Ashadhi Wari, one of Maharashtra's most significant religious pilgrimages, continues to symbolize devotion, unity, and the rich cultural heritage of the state.
