Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh unveiled the trailer of his much-awaited Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 late Sunday night. Scheduled to release on June 27, the film features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in a prominent role — a casting decision that has sparked controversy amid ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

Following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Indian government reinforced its ban on Pakistani artists working in India. Hania Aamir's presence in Sardaar Ji 3 has angered a section of Indian audiences, prompting backlash online and raising calls for a boycott.

Producers Respond, Confirm No India Release

Addressing the growing controversy, co-producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu issued a statement clarifying the production timeline and their decision regarding the film's release.

"Our film was shot long before the recent Indo-Pak tensions. However, considering the current situation and the sentiments of the Indian public, we have decided not to release Sardaar Ji 3 in India," said Sidhu. He added that the team would wait for a more appropriate time to consider the Indian release.

Netizens Slam Diljit Dosanjh Online

Soon after the trailer dropped, social media was flooded with criticism of lead actor Diljit Dosanjh for working with a Pakistani actress. Some users accused him of being “anti-national,” while others labeled him a “Khalistani” sympathizer. A few even demanded that Dosanjh be boycotted altogether.

Film to Release Overseas on June 27

Despite the backlash, the makers remain firm in their decision. Sardaar Ji 3 will release as planned on June 27 in international markets. The film promises an entertaining blend of romance, action, and comedy, continuing the legacy of the Sardaar Ji franchise.

For now, Indian fans of the series will have to wait, as the film skips a domestic release amid diplomatic sensitivities.
