As Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray come together on a common platform today for the celebration of ‘Marathi Vijay Diwas’, veteran filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar has shared his heartfelt reaction to this historic political reunion.

The celebrated Marathi cinema director, known for his long-standing connection with both the Thackeray family and the cause of Marathi identity, emphasized that this moment goes far beyond any individual influence.

“This is not happening just because of my interview. But if two brothers are coming together for the sake of Marathi pride, it’s truly a joyous moment,” said Manjrekar.

“A Matter of Pride for the Entire Marathi Community”

Reflecting on the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena, Manjrekar said,

“Balasaheb established Shiv Sena to fight for the rights of Marathi people. Today, his two heirs—Uddhav and Raj—coming together after two decades of estrangement is a moment of great pride for the entire Marathi-speaking community.”

He further shared a personal note, recalling his deep association with the Thackeray family:

“Raj Thackeray is a very close friend of mine, and I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Balasaheb many times. It is always unfortunate when relationships break, but today, something long divided is being reunited—and that’s something truly special.”

Unable to Attend, But Present in Spirit

Though he deeply wanted to be part of today’s historic event in Mumbai, Manjrekar informed that he is currently in Manali for the shoot of his upcoming film and won’t be able to attend in person.

“Even though I’m away, my heart is with them. I’m thrilled and proud to see this unity take shape,” he added.

The reunion of the Thackeray cousins, long seen as political rivals, has created a major buzz not just in political circles but also across the cultural landscape of Maharashtra. Mahesh Manjrekar’s comments echo the sentiments of many who see this as a moment of healing and renewed strength for the Marathi identity movement.
