Heat Wave Alert : Chandrapur in Vidarbha Scorches as Global Temperatures Hit Record Highs

Published on

A severe heat wave has gripped Maharashtra, with Chandrapur in the Vidarbha region emerging as the hottest spot, breaking its own temperature record from last year. With temperatures soaring to 45°C, Chandrapur has not only topped India’s heat charts but recently ranked among the hottest places globally.

Over the past few days, Vidarbha has been experiencing intense and unrelenting heat, surpassing many of the traditionally hottest cities across the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave alert for several districts, including Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Nagpur, warning that the extreme conditions are expected to persist for the next two days.

Authorities have advised citizens to avoid going outdoors between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., except for essential activities, as exposure during peak hours could lead to heatstroke and other health complications. The dry spell is expected to continue, exacerbating the already challenging weather conditions.

This spike in temperatures comes just weeks after unseasonal rains affected many parts of the state, causing significant crop damage and economic losses for farmers. While the rainfall brought temporary relief, it was short-lived, and now, the mercury is climbing once again—particularly in eastern Maharashtra.

Meteorologists and environmental experts are attributing the ongoing heat wave to the broader pattern of global temperature rise, which has seen unprecedented highs this year worldwide.

With Vidarbha now at the forefront of this climate stress, authorities are urging residents to stay hydrated, remain indoors during peak hours, and follow health advisories to avoid the risks associated with extreme heat.
