Uddhav Thackeray Denounces BJP as 'Rumour Factory' Amid Language Policy Row

Hits back at government over Hindi GR rollback; calls for unity despite march cancellation

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the BJP and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, calling the BJP a “rumour factory” in response to recent statements made by the government regarding the controversial Hindi language resolutions.

Thackeray’s remarks came during a press conference on the eve of the monsoon session, following the government’s decision to cancel two government resolutions (GRs) that mandated Hindi language requirements. The decision was announced by Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, who also claimed that the committee on the Hindi language was originally set up during Thackeray’s own tenure as Chief Minister.

Responding to these allegations, Thackeray refuted the claims and accused the BJP of deliberately spreading misinformation. “The BJP has become a rumour factory. They twist facts and mislead the public,” he said.

Thackeray also took the opportunity to urge political unity. Although the planned July 5 march against Hindi imposition has now been cancelled after the GRs were revoked, he encouraged Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and other supporting parties to continue their cooperation. “Even though the march is not taking place, this unity must not stop. Let’s come together to celebrate Maharashtra’s victory,” he said.

Thackeray’s remarks are seen as a continuation of the growing opposition to the BJP-led Mahayuti government’s policies, particularly on cultural and linguistic issues. The now-cancelled GRs had triggered widespread backlash and led to rare political unity between rivals Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray.

With tensions mounting ahead of the monsoon session, political observers expect sharp debates in the Assembly as the opposition presses the government on language, governance, and transparency.
