Accident: 11 killed as car falls into canal in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda
A severe accident occurred on Sunday in the jurisdiction of Motiganj police station in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh. Near the Sihagav-Khargupur road, a Bolero jeep at high speed fell into the Sharyu canal. In this accident, 11 people died on the spot, most of whom were from the same family. Local citizens rescued 4 people from the accident vehicle.
According to the information received, all of them were on their way to offer water at the famous Prithvinath Temple in Gond. Suddenly, the driver lost control of the Bolero and it fell into the canal. At the time of the incident, the canal was completely filled with water. As the Bolero fell into the water, the entire vehicle submerged within moments. The passengers inside tried to open the doors to save their lives, but the doors did not open, resulting in their unfortunate death. People nearby rushed to the scene. They tried to break the windows of the vehicle to rescue some people. In this effort, 4 people were successfully rescued. Subsequently, the local administration and police arrived at the scene. After receiving help in the rescue operation, 11 bodies trapped in the vehicle were retrieved. Among the deceased are 6 women, 2 men, and 3 children.
A girl who survived the accident said, 'We were all going to the temple. We were singing hymns in the car. Suddenly, our car skidded and fell directly into the canal. After that, I don't remember anything. Following the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath immediately took note of it and ordered the concerned officials to reach the scene promptly and carry out rescue and relief operations. He also announced financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased.
