In view of the severe heatwave sweeping across Uttar Pradesh, the Uttar Pradesh Board of Basic Education has taken a significant decision to ensure the safety and well-being of school children. Summer vacations for students up to Class VIII in all government and recognized private schools have been extended until June 30, 2025.

According to an official circular issued by the board, academic activities for students will remain suspended until the end of June due to the intense and persistent heat across the state. Regular classes will resume from July 1, 2025.

Previously, under a board order dated December 26, 2024, the summer vacation was scheduled from May 20 to June 15. However, the recent surge in temperatures has led the board to revise the schedule.

“Due to the current severe heatwave, it has been decided that students will not attend schools for academic activities till June 30, 2025. Regular academic sessions will resume from July 1,” the circular stated.

Teachers and Staff to Report from June 16

While students have been granted an extended break, teachers, Shiksha Mitras, coaches, and non-teaching staff are required to report back to school on June 16 as per the original schedule. They will be expected to carry out academic planning, administrative work, and other official duties during this period.

The circular also notes that management committees of recognized private schools may take further decisions based on local weather conditions. Meanwhile, District Basic Education Officers (BEOs) have been instructed to strictly enforce the revised directives and ensure compliance across all schools.

This decision comes amid growing concerns from parents and health experts over the impact of extreme temperatures on young children, particularly in rural areas where access to cooling infrastructure is limited. The board's proactive approach has been widely welcomed as a much-needed relief for students during the ongoing heatwave.
