One of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's most ambitious projects, the Ganga Expressway, is now very close to inauguration. The completion of this mega project has been awaited for many years. Chief Minister Yogi wanted to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway before the last Kumbh Mela, but it was not possible. However, preparations for the inauguration of the expressway have now intensified during the Magh Mela.

According to officials of the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), more than 98 percent of the Ganga Expressway construction has been completed. Only 2 percent of the finishing work of one section is ongoing, which is targeted to be completed by December 15. After inspection by teams of road safety and quality experts, the expressway will be opened for testing.

After 15 days of successful testing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate it on January 15, on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. The 594-kilometer expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj includes a total of 1,498 major structures, of which 1,497 have already been completed. In the first phase, the 129-kilometer section from Meerut to Badaun has been fully completed.

Five airstrips have been constructed on this expressway, enabling emergency landings of fighter jets. Moreover, this expressway will accelerate industrial development in the districts of Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. Industrial corridors are also being developed on both sides of the expressway.

No decision has been made yet regarding the toll rates for the Ganga Expressway, but it is estimated that cars will be charged ₹2.55 per kilometer. The maximum speed of the expressway will be 160 kilometers per hour, making the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj only 6-7 hours long.
