Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections, campaigning will conclude tonight at 10 PM

The campaign for municipal and town council elections in Maharashtra will stop at 10 p.m. on Monday night, and in the past few days, the exchange of accusations has intensified. After 10 p.m., no advertisements related to the campaign can be published or broadcast. In the ruling grand alliance, comprising BJP, Shinde Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's faction, direct contests in some places have brought internal disputes into the open. Particularly in Mumbai suburbs, Sindhudurg in South Konkan, Palghar, and Ambernath, this conflict is of an intense nature. Therefore, the State Election Commission has clarified that even in print media, advertisements should not be published on the day of voting, i.e., December 2, 2025.

Voting for the general elections of municipal councils and municipal panchayats will be held on 2 December 2025, and the period for public campaigning will end at 10 p.m. on 1 December 2025 as per the provisions of the ‘Maharashtra Municipal Council, Municipal Panchayat and Industrial Township Act 1965’. After that, public campaigning through rallies, campaign tours, loudspeakers, etc., will not be allowed in any form.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar held the most meetings across the state, showering promises, while the opposition parties Congress, Sharad Pawar group, and Uddhav Sena's campaign paled in comparison. On Sunday, the top leaders of all parties organized campaign tours, while on Monday, the last day, meetings, roadshows, and public outreach campaigns are being conducted. Voting for these 246 municipal councils and 42 municipal committees will be held on December 2, in which 10.7 million voters will participate.​

The State Election Commission has issued the ‘Media Regulation and Advertisement Certification Order, 2025’ on October 9, 2025, for the purpose of elections. According to paragraph 16 in Part Eight of this order, after the end of campaigning for municipal councils and municipal panchayats and on the day of voting, i.e., December 2, 2025, no type of advertisements can be published or broadcast in print media, electronic media, or social media, as stated in the press release of the State Election Commission.

A holiday has been declared on the day of voting, and strict security arrangements will be deployed by the police. Additional police force will be stationed at sensitive centers, while voting will be conducted through EVMs at 13,355 polling stations. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.

Voting Time

For voting, time has been allotted on Tuesday, 2nd December from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Counting will begin on 3rd December at 10 AM, and after the results are announced, the relevant code of conduct for municipal councils and municipal panchayats will come to an end.
